Declaring themselves "the ambassadors of three-chord lo-fi," the Dugans have come roaring back with a blazing little seven-inch slab o' vinyl on the newly formed local record company, Paint Chip Records. Recorded earlier this year at Signature Sound in Troy, "Corner of This Bar" is both charming and churning, a mondo-distorto-guitar rave-up that nestles up nicely somewhere between Husker Du and the Replacements. The buzz 'n' fuzz guitar sound of Howe Glassman and Chris Borucki gives the band a new-found density that's considerably heavier than the Dugans' previous album, "Bad Things Happen to Good People."
And newcomer Phil Lanz at the drum kit locks into a loose but propulsive groove with bassist Walt Wallen on the flipside, the pop 'n' grunge gem, "She Wants More."
