VIC:Triumphant Evans wants hug from mum
MELBOURNE, Aug 11 AAP - Tour de France champion Cadel Evans says he's happy to be home
and honoured that Australians have supported him - and is looking forward to a hug from
his mum.
Evans touched down on Thursday and was greeted by a media throng at Melbourne Airport.
He said he was happy to be back in Australia and that everyone was glad to have him
home for a few days.
After what he described as a good July and a great Tour de France, Evans said he looked
forward to celebrating his victory with everyone who had supported him.
"I've been working at the Tour de France for the best part of my whole life, and then
when it all comes together, to have been supported all this way through and be able to
bring the yellow jersey back to Australia, of course I'm proud to do it," he said.
"But I'm also happy to be able to give something back to everyone who's supported me
and also honoured for everyone who's been so appreciative of it."

FED:Gillard plays down Windsor carbon comments
By Paul Osborne, AAP Senior Political Writer
CANBERRA, April 14 AAP - Prime Minister Julia Gillard has played down a key independent
MP's claim that her government doesn't have the numbers to pass its carbon tax.
The government wants a carbon price from July 2012 and has promised that more than
half of the revenue will go to households to compensate for prices rises for items such
as electricity and groceries.
Legislation is set to come to parliament in the third quarter of this year but Labor
will need the support of the Greens and independents to pass it.
However independent MP Tony Windsor, who is on the committee working on the scheme,
said on Thursday while he believed a carbon price could create renewable energy jobs in
the bush he would not "vote for something that does nothing".
"There is no carbon tax, there may not be a carbon tax," Mr Windsor told ABC radio.
"The prime minister doesn't have the numbers, as I understand it at the moment.
"I have a vote, others do as well, so you can never guarantee something until it gets
through a minority parliament."
Ms Gillard said Mr Windsor had consistently said that he would not commit to anything
until the legislation was finalised.
"He does believe that pricing carbon is the best way, an important way, of tackling
climate change," she said.
"But for an individual legislative package he's going to look at the package and wait
until the end and then judge."
Asked about the current carbon tax debate, a veteran Labor backbencher told AAP: "I
don't think it's going well for the government."
He said too much of the party's strategy was based on the coalition facing a public
backlash at the next election over rolling back the compensation, in a similar way to
Kim Beazley after the GST passed.
Opposition treasury spokesman Joe Hockey said the coalition did not intend to pressure
the independents into opposing the tax.
"(But) I would ask them to listen to wise advice, and often it is the case that wise
advice comes from your constituents," Mr Hockey told Sky News.
"If you wonder why consumer confidence is down at the moment then look no further than
the government is imposing a carbon tax, a mining tax, flood tax."

WA:Surfer killed by shark in WA's southwest
By Lloyd Jones
PERTH, Aug 17 AAP - Rescuers worked desperately to save a surfer attacked by a shark
in Western Australia's southwest but the man died after suffering a deep bite to his leg.
The 31-year-old father was surfing at the popular South Point break near Gracetown,
about 270km south of Perth, when he was attacked around 8.15am (WST) on Tuesday.
The man was from nearby Busselton and was a fly-in fly-out worker in WA's Goldfields region.
Local resident Rob Alder was watching from his house and saw the lone surfer come off
his board and disappear near the South Point surf break south of Cowaramup Bay.
He rushed to the beach with friends to find the man washed up on rocks and unconscious
with a severe gash to his right leg.
They applied a makeshift tourniquet using a surfboard leg rope to the man's leg before
an ambulance arrived to assist.
He was taken to Margaret River Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Mr Alder said there were seals in the bay at the time.
"It's my thought that as often happens the shark had probably mistaken the surfer for
a seal," he told ABC Radio.
"It was probably an exploratory nip, it realised it wasn't a seal and let go, but that
can be fatal."
The man's surfboard was reported to be bitten in half.
Mr Alder said everyone in the popular Margaret River surfing region was numbed and
thinking of the friends and family of a fellow surfer.
"We all know that we live with this risk when we take part in this exciting and exhilarating
way of life.
"We're in shark territory, we're really at the mercy of the gods."
Another local resident, Cassandra Fisher, said she saw the shark in the water off the beach.
The beach has been closed until midday on Wednesday while police and fisheries officers
try to find the shark and assess further risk of attack.
Police took hundreds of calls on Tuesday morning from locals who were concerned that
a family member or friend could have been the deceased.
Sergeant Graham Clifford said the man's name would be released as soon as possible
to allay concerns.
"As soon as we can identify the deceased we'll let the public know which is normally
against our practice of waiting 24 hours," he said.
Department of Fisheries WA regional manager Phil Shaw said fisheries officers would
try to determine if the shark was still in the area, what species it was and whether it
posed a risk.
He said it was not known if the shark was a great white and said any decision to destroy
a shark would depend on the risk assessment.
"If it posed a continuing risk, if it was determined that it was likely to keep hanging
around and become a threat then that would be the decision, but it would be a last resort."
Mr Shaw said great whites were common off that part of the WA coast and were a protected species.
Unfavourable weather meant a boat from Busselton might not be able to reach the area
until Wednesday but a plane might be used, he said.
In 2004, local surfer Brad Smith died after a shark attack at Gracetown's Lefthanders Beach.
In 1996 five adults and four children were killed in a cliff collapse near Gracetown
while watching a surfing carnival.

Qld: Ship owners say they're sorry
The owners of a Chinese coal carrier that crashed into a protected part of the Great
Barrier Reef say the ship didn't stick to a planned route.
The Chinese-registered Shen Neng One has been stuck on Douglas Shoal off the central
Queensland coast for almost a week.
HU WEI from Shenzhen Energy Transport Company says the vessel didn't alter course to
the east to go through the passage as planned.
He's apologised for the incident and has vowed to work closely with investigators and
maritime authorities.
Mr WEI says the company's insurers have appointed international salvors Svitzer Salvage
to remove the ship.
The matter has been referred to the Australian Federal Police which is yet to decide
whether it will launch a criminal investigation.
Salvage crews are set to begin pumping heavy oil from the grounded coal carrier.

NSW: Phuong Ngo supporter disappointed at conviction finding
SYDNEY, April 17 AAP - A key Phuong Ngo supporter has defended her objectivity in the
wake of a judicial report confirming his guilt for the murder of NSW MP John Newman.
After holding an inquiry into doubts raised about Ngo's conviction, judicial officer
David Patten concluded the case against him was now stronger than it had been at trial.
Ngo is serving a life term after being convicted in 2001 of ordering the killing of Mr Newman.
The MP was gunned down outside his home in the southwest Sydney suburb of Cabramatta
on September 5, 1994.
In his report, Mr Patten said the strength of the evidence available against Ngo was
"virtually ignored" by his supporters in their submissions to the inquiry.
He said he found Marion Le to be an unsatisfactory witness, concluding "she has wholly
lost objectivity".
"She seemed to me so absolutely convinced of the innocence of Mr Ngo as to be blind
to any circumstance indicating the contrary," he said.
But Ms Le told AAP she did not think she had lost objectivity, adding "I think I have
always made an intelligent assessment" about the case.
"I think I have been known to be a very good judge of character," she said.
Ms Le said many intelligent people who had expressed disquiet at the conviction, or
totally believed in Ngo's innocence, knew "the main players".
In fact, she said, she thought the inquiry lacked objectivity, saying it "became a
re-trial instead of an investigation".
"Instead of being about Phuong Ngo, it was about the DPP protecting their interest,
the police protecting their interest ...," she said.
She was disappointed at the findings, but she said "I was disappointed from almost day one".
"I still do not believe that the evidence stacks up," she said.
Ms Le said it made no sense for Mr Ngo to have ordered the assassination.

Vic: Call for open investigation into police shooting
The Victorian Criminal Justice Coalition says police must conduct an independent and
open investigation into the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy.
Representing more than 50 legal .. academic and community service organisations ..
the group says it's concerned about an emerging pattern of high levels of police shooting
deaths .. evident in the 1990s.
Convenor Father PETER NORDEN's warned against a "closed shop" investigation into the
incident .. or a police media relations campaign to justify the use of deadly force.
Father NORDEN also says the coalition's advocated for more than 15 years .. for an
increase in specialist response teams to people suffering disturbed behaviour.
Officers fatally shot the boy in the chest as he approached and allegedly threatened
them with two knives in the Melbourne suburb of Northcote .. about 9.30 (AEDT) last night.
Police say they fired warning shots and used two hits of capsicum spray to subdue the

Oly: China on brink of becoming world's dominant sporting pation
By Martin Parry
BEIJING, Aug 8 AFP - China is on the brink of becoming the most dominant sporting power
in the world, with expectations running high that they will bounce the United States from
the top of the Olympic medal table.
Publicly, China's leadership have played down the country's sporting ambitions and
Cui Dalin, deputy chief of China's Olympic team, insists the team has no official medal
target.
But he said he hoped all athletes would perform to their highest level when the Games
get underway on Saturday.
"We have never set a medal target. But we have made very serious preparations and all
athletes have undergone very hard training," he said.
"It is safe to say that we have made progress with regard to previous performances."
In reality, China's athletes are under extreme pressure to perform well.
At a ceremony to unveil the team, basketball star Yao Ming, reigning 110m Olympic hurdle
champion Liu Xiang and dozens of others vowed in unison to do the nation of 1.3 billion
people proud.
"For the glory of the motherland, I will, during the Beijing Olympics, doggedly struggle,
summon all courage and energy to be first, compete with fairness and friendship, win without
pride, and lose without losing spirit," they said.
"We will achieve the twin goals of athletic success and civilised spirit, make a good
showing for the nation's people and win honour for the motherland."
At Athens four years ago, China finished with 32 gold, 17 silver and 14 bronze medals
to place second behind the United States.
In the drive to beat that mark and satisfy nationalist pride, they are fielding 639
athletes in Beijing -- up from the 407 it sent to Greece.
While it has a realistic chance of achieving the feat, it is not likely to make waves
in blue riband events such as athletics and swimming.
Rather, its hopes lie in scooping golds from sports where it is traditionally strong
-- table tennis, badminton, gymnastics and diving.
It will also be aiming to add to the tally in lower profile disciplines such as canoeing,
boxing, beach volleyball and synchronized swimming.
In athletics, only Liu and London marathon winner Zhou Chunxiu have a realistic chance
of seeing the Chinese flag hoisted in honour of a gold medal, with Zhang Wenxiu an outside
chance in the women's hammer throw.
With China's dismal showing at the National Swimming Championships this year, where
just two Asian records were broken, few of the 32 golds up for grabs in the pool are expected
to end up in their hands.
The United States and Australia are set to dominate once again, with Chinese hopes
hanging on Wu Peng, who claimed silver in the 200m butterfly at last year's world championships.
Where China will almost certainly chalk up success is through its paddlers and shuttlers.
It is the dominant table tennis nation and with the likes of men's world numbers one
and two, Wang Hao and Ma Lin, in action, and top-ranked Zhang Yining and Guo Yue on the
women's side, a medal frenzy is almost guaranteed.
Golden couple Lin Dan and Xie Xingfang carry Chinese hopes on the badminton courts,
while the diving team is aiming to top their six golds from nine medals at Athens.
"Pressure can be both positive or detrimental to my game. Olympic gold is the goal
that I am pursuing in Beijing," said Lin this week.
A sport that China could surprise in is boxing. At the 2006 Asian Games they shocked
world heavyweights Kazakhstan and Thailand by bagging two gold medals through Zou Shiming
(light flyweight) and Hu Qing (lightweight).
China could get off to a flyer by winning the first gold medal of the Games, with sharpshooter
Du Li favourite in the 10m Air Rifle.
Li faces a close race with her country's weightlifters to give China the roaring start
they want in their bid to surpass the United States.

Fed: Queensland still goes it alone on daylight saving
By Peter Veness
CANBERRA, April 13 AAP - There may be a big agenda for today's meeting between state
and territory leaders and Prime Minister John Howard, but no issue is likely to stir more
passion than daylight saving.
Victoria, NSW, the ACT and Tasmania will all sign an agreement at today's Council of
Australian Governments (COAG) meeting to bring their daylight saving periods into alignment.
But as Victoria holds out on water, Queensland is holding out on daylight.
While Queensland Premier Peter Beattie today said he was happy for his state to remain
in a different time zone, he has commissioned research which may lead to the banana state
finally joining Australia's other eastern states.
He called arguments about Queensland being left behind economically because of its
daylight saving stance utter nonsense.
"These arguments are 70s, it's all bloody passe," Mr Beattie told reporters.
"No one's interested other than a few people who want to argue about it."
NSW Premier Morris Iemma offered no advice to Mr Beattie, but said he was keen for
NSW to join the other states.
"He's got a position on daylight saving, we've agreed to harmonise our dates," he said.

Vic: Staff launch class action against Ballarat University
MELBOURNE, Feb 15 AAP - A group of 700 University of Ballarat staff will today lodge
a $7 million damages claim against their employer, stating they were misled about Australian
Workplace Agreements (AWA).
Law firm Maurice Blackburn Cashman will today lodge the claim in the Federal Court,
seeking an injunction to stop the university, based at Ballarat, west of Melbourne, from
continuing to enter into AWAs.
In addition, staff are seeking damages of up to $7 million.
Lawyer Josh Bornstein said the university had misled employees by saying present key
employment conditions would be safeguarded, in an attempt to get them to sign AWAs.
Mr Bornstein said providing misleading information about AWAs was a breach of the Workplace
Relations Act.
"It is clear that the AWAs being offered by the University of Ballarat will lead to
a diminution of staff's present conditions, in particular in relation to job security
issues," Mr Bornstein said.
"These staff are simply seeking justice under the present Workplace Relations Act and
believe that the university have (sic) knowingly hid relevant information from them about
their future employment conditions," he said.
National Tertiary Education Union state secretary Matthew McGowan said the union supported
the decision by the university's 700 staff to take legal action.
"The union is totally supporting the staff in pursuing this class action," Mr McGowan said.
"If the management want to offer AWAs then the least they can do is be honest about
it and make it very clear that the AWAs they are offering will undermine the conditions
people currently enjoy under the enterprise agreement," he said.
Comment is being sought from the University of Ballarat.

Intell-A-Check's Guaranteed Check Writing Software Enables Consumers to Buy Rare Gem Stones Using Their Checking Accounts.
Business Editors & High-Tech/Retail Writers
BELLEVILLE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 12, 2001
Intell-A-Check Gives The Gem Shopping Network A Seamless
ACH Payment Solution
Intell-A-Check Corp., a leader in electronic payment solutions, today announced that the Gem Shopping Network (GSN) is utilizing Intell-A-Check's electronic check writing application in its call center environment -- giving GSN viewers the opportunity to buy rare gemstones and related items using their checking account.
"In addition to offering a new payment option to include check-based payments for GSN customers, we also needed a more effective method of ensuring receipt of their payment," said Laura McFarling, credit manager for the GSN. "Before implementing Intell-A-Check's solution, GSN was experiencing an overall cancellation rate of 15 percent, due to never receiving a check or money order from the customer and waiting to receive a customer's payment by mail could take up to 15 days. Now, we can immediately process and ship orders by directly debiting the customer's account -- reducing the amount of time that customers have to wait to receive their order."
With this alternative solution, shoppers simply contact GSN's call center and place their orders with call center operators, who are located with the host in the showroom. Operators enter the required information into Intell-A-Check's interface and can clarify customer questions by speaking directly with the show host. Through Intell-A-Check's strategic relationship with Equifax Check Solutions, the global leader in check authorization and approval services to businesses, GSN is able to determine within seconds whether a customer is approved for purchase.
"Merchants are realizing that a key way of increasing levels of customer satisfaction and encouraging repeated purchases is to offer a variety of payment options," said Joe Grueter, partner, Intell-A-Check. "With Intell-A-Check's solution, consumers and merchants are able to eliminate the costly additional fees involved with accepting and processing credit card payments."
At the close of each business day, all transactions handled by GSN are compiled in a database repository known as ICheck located in Intell-A-Check's data center. The transactions are then sent to Mellon Bank, a unit of Mellon Financial Corporation, for payment and settlement. Funds from previous night's transactions are available the next business day in GSN's account. Additionally, through its relationship with Intell-A-Check, Mellon provides the GSN with access to its premier Automated Clearing House (ACH) processing services. By eliminating a reliance on paper checks, Mellon's ACH services translate into faster settlements and fewer returns.
"The combination of Equifax's check risk management with Intell-A-Check's applications enables us to provide customers like Gem Shopping Network with a complete Automated Clearing House (ACH) payment solution," said Michele Malconian, vice president of product development for Equifax PayNet Secure.
"Through Equifax's relationship with Intell-A-Check, merchants in call center, Internet and brick & mortar environments receive full payment support including near-real-time customer purchase verification and a guaranteed payment."

Indonesia, Brazil and Venezuela Lead Global Surge in Twitter Usage; Global Audience to Twitter.com Doubles in Past Year, as Latin American Audience Grows Fourfold
Today nearly 3 out of 4 global Internet users access social networking sites each month, making it one of the most ubiquitous activities across the web. As more users around the world have become acquainted with connecting and expressing themselves through social media, it has created an environment where new media like Twitter can emerge globally in a relatively short period of time. Triple-Digit Visitation Growth Witnessed Across Most Global Regions In June 2010, nearly 93 million unique global users age 15 and older visited Twitter.com from a home or work location, an increase of 109 percent from the previous year. This excludes usage of Twitter-based applications such as TweetDeck.
An analysis of the five major global regions revealed that Latin America experienced the strongest audience growth, surging 305 percent to 15.4 million users. Asia Pacific ranked as the second-fastest growing region, climbing 243 percent to 25.1 million visitors. The Middle-East Africa jumped 142 percent to 5 million visitors, while Europe soared 106 percent to 22.5 million visitors. North America, where Twitter has reached a higher maturity level than other regions, saw a growth of 22 percent to nearly 25 million visitors in June.

SIIA NetGain: road trip for innovation.(report from the field)
Boston, the home of "chowdah" and the Celtics, was the site of the 2--day SIIA NetGain conference in mid--May. While Day 1 featured dedicated sessions on the big business of content, Day 2 shuttled the 30--plus delegates from Boston Harbor to Cambridge, Mass., in the pursuit of innovation in action.
Brian Halligan, CEO and founder of the Boston--based HubSpot, Inc., kicked off Day 1 with an in--depth look at the steps to creating an effective strategy for transformation. Although he targeted his talk to marketing initiatives, his basic wisdom can be applied universally: "Effective transformation is more about the width of your brain versus the width of your wallet." Creativity trumps a bottomless budget, which just isn't a reality for many businesses these days.
Halligan points to Groupon, Inc.'s success with the underlying premise that, "You need to be clever." Think in terms of the quality of your ideas. And if you're not a creative person, hire someone who is. "The key to success is to measure often and evolve fast," he says.
Prime examples of innovative game--changers included Sam Zales, president of Zoom Information, Inc. (ZoomInfo), who discussed his company's transformation from a dusty directory to an active community. Creating a new brand with a link to social media infused energy into its growing community of users. He spoke of how ZoomInfo's success is driven by aligning goals and being "maniacal about listening to our customers."
Likewise, Vanessa DiMauro, CEO of Leader Networks, viewed the adoption and evolution of mobile devices as another game--changer. Old processes used to work, she says, adding that today's core value for enterprises is serving customers in a way that meets their needs.
Innovating on the behalf of the customer was also at the heart of Mark MacCarthy's session on privacy. As SIIA's vice president of public policy, MacCarthy is tracking proposed legislation that is designed to protect user privacy. The default should be to share information and for users to be able to delete any information as desired. After all, "the internet writes in ink, not pencil," he says.
Ian Condry, associate professor of global media and director of the Social Media Initiative at MIT, gave conference attendees a preview of the innovation emerging from the MIT Media Lab, one of the road trips on Day 2. Condry used Hatsune Miku, Japan's virtual, 3D, life--size idol, as an example of the first sounds of the future, where "the platform is the idea." Playing off the concepts of social media and 3D technology, Hatsune Miku comes to virtual life on stage in concert (www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTXO7KGHtjI).
The tour bus was ready on Day 2 for three stops in Boston. The first was at Thomson Reuters for a briefing on Thomson Reuters' master content project. John Eliseo, vice president of enterprise content and metadata management at Thomson Reuters, provided a sneak preview of a new breed of holistic content that breaks down silos companywide and pieces the content back together. This "LEGOizing" of content parts and pieces will create a way for users to build and manage the rich content for a better search and discovery experience.
[ILLUSTRATION OMITTED]
Stop 2 was The Boston Globe, where publisher Christopher Mayer, a Yale University graduate with an IT degree, shared his insights about the state of today's newspaper industry and the digital products that the publisher is rolling out. "The business model needs to change or to diversify to bring in revenue," says Mayer. Branding was a big issue. Users grew to know and value the content of the free site Boston.com, but more often than not, users didn't realize that The Boston Globe was responsible for its content. "There was no real brand stickiness," he says. But the new business models that are offered both for free and for a fee will offer content that is designed for a broad base of users, some of whom are willing to pay for valued mobile content. "We're no longer just a news company," he says. "We're a media company." The goals are simple: to create a product that works well and delivers excellent content (in the eyes of the audience).
The last stop was the MIT Media Lab, the brainchild behind the prototypes of Scrabble Flash (one of the top toys of 2010), E Ink technology for e--readers, Guitar Hero, LEGO MINDSTORMS, and more. Mitchel Resnick, director of the Lifelong Kindergarten research group, offered a show--and--tell of his projects in the LEGO Lab, where people of all ages engage in creative learning experiences. Resnick was one of several MIT professors who showcased the innovations created by their teams, which represents "technology with a purpose and learning through creating."
Resnick noted that in this new economy based on consumer trust, users are learning from each other. One of his team products is called Scratch, a platform of interactive stories and games for kids, which has generated 1.8 million projects, one-third of which are remixes. "Creativity and community are the cores in today's society," he says, explaining his three main drivers: "Think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively."
John Blossom, president and senior analyst at Shore Communications, Inc., was quick to predict the innovations coming in the Second Web: "You ain't seen nothing yet."
Police should do something about the constant noise in Bur Dubai.
Provided by 7DAYS.ae
I live on Rolla road, Bur Dubai and I am going slowly insane through sleep deprivation. Dubai is a cosmopolitan city and NOT a village in the hills somewhere that only has dirt tracks instead of a proper road system. From 6am in the morning until 1am every day of the week, it's chaos!Aa People are actually walking with prams and shopping trolleys down the middle of the road??!! Indicators are unheard of, drivers honk their horns non stop to indicate left, right, straight, I want my shawarma, my laundry, my car fixed or just "move out of the way"!!! They double park on both sides of the road which causes more chaotic driving and MORE noise.Aa To all you selfish and dangerous people that have no respect for the residents on Rolla road...It's a residential road! Traffic travelling in one lane which is driving in one direction, and traffic in the other lane driving in the opposite direction, that's 2 lanes, which every day and night becomes 4 lanes. Where are the police, why are they not policing this area and fining on the spot hundreds of people? Honking a vehicle horn in a residential area is against the law, it is in the RTA road code rules. I suggest that the police get out into the community and deal with these very real and growing problems. These kinds of disturbances would not be permitted in certain areas, my colleagues and friends say it's very peaceful in Jumeirah and Umm Sequiem, where parking is free and silence is expected. Do something about this noise please.
Very vexed

'Viral' marketing's power--and time to renew.(editor's page)
With the speed at which popular culture and the Internet changes, the amazing rise of Rebecca Black and her much-maligned song "Friday" may be nearly forgotten by now.
But for a few weeks this spring, it was hard to miss the 13-year-old Southern California teen whose parents paid a so-called vanity record label about $4,000 to write a song, have their daughter record it and shoot a music video built around it.
The result, "Friday," was a dance-pop number that may rival "It's a Small World" for its ability to stick in listeners' heads--and annoy the heck out of them.
Although the song's video was released to YouTube in February, it took almost a month for it to rise to the top of the website's popularity index. As of late April, is has racked up more than 120 million views, spawned dozens of "viral" parodies and been dissected in the Los Angeles Times, Entertainment Weekly and on countless websites.
Few people seem to enjoy the song--among those who voted, it has only 331,000 "likes" compared with 2.4 million "dislikes"--but that doesn't matter. By some estimates, she has earned at least $75,000 for it so far, thanks to iTunes Store sales and online video watching. Not bad for a song about a teen whose biggest life problems are waking up on time and deciding which seat to sit in for the drive to school.
So what does any of this have to do with HVAC or sheet metal? It speaks to the incredible power of viral marketing. At almost every convention I attended last winter, session speakers told contractors they needed to be on YouTube with videos that showcase their company's expertise and services. A quick search of YouTube for "HVAC" brings up 24,000 videos, with thousands more in related subjects such as "duct" and "refrigeration."
None of them approach the multimillion views of Black, but several have well over 100,000 viewings, proving that people do use the Internet to seek out videos on subjects such as air conditioning. Making a good-looking video does take some time, but it is not as expensive as you might think.
When you're looking at your advertising budget, consider investing in some videos for your company's website or YouTube "channel." I think you could be happy with the results.

An option that we're offering again this year is the chance to convert your print subscription to digital format. If you find that you do most of your reading these days sitting at your computer and would prefer to receive Snips in an interactive "digital" edition, go to www.Snipsmag.com/switch2011. Besides saving a few trees, our digital edition comes direct to your e-mail each month and is an exact copy of the print version. It allows you to zoom in and "turn" pages--all with a click of your computer's mouse.
