VIC:Triumphant Evans wants hug from mum
MELBOURNE, Aug 11 AAP - Tour de France champion Cadel Evans says he's happy to be home
and honoured that Australians have supported him - and is looking forward to a hug from
his mum.
Evans touched down on Thursday and was greeted by a media throng at Melbourne Airport.
He said he was happy to be back in Australia and that everyone was glad to have him
home for a few days.
After what he described as a good July and a great Tour de France, Evans said he looked
forward to celebrating his victory with everyone who had supported him.
"I've been working at the Tour de France for the best part of my whole life, and then
when it all comes together, to have been supported all this way through and be able to
bring the yellow jersey back to Australia, of course I'm proud to do it," he said.
"But I'm also happy to be able to give something back to everyone who's supported me
and also honoured for everyone who's been so appreciative of it."
