BBQ Makes Everything Better, and the World Agrees.

Jason Day and Aaron Chronister, authors of BBQ Makes Everything Better (Scribner), were awarded "Best Barbecue Cookbook in the World" during the 16th Annual Gourmand World Cookbook Awards held at the historical Theatre des Folies Bergere in Paris, France on March 3, 2011.

Jason Day traveled to Paris to represent the duo amongst some of the biggest international culinary stars nominated for awards. During the prestigious ceremony it was revealed BBQ Makes Everything Better had clinched the top honor "Best Barbecue Cookbook in the World" and Day was called to the stage to accept the award.

"I thanked our publisher, Scribner, for taking a chance on a couple of bloggers who like to eat meat, and to our family and friends for all their continued support," remembers Day. "I didn't have internet or phone access at the venue, so I asked a new Australian friend to text home the good news to our anxiously awaiting supporters."

More than 1,200 publishers, authors, chefs, journalists, foodies and spectators watched the awards and gathered for a champagne toast in the great hall of the theater following the ceremony.

Twelve countries were up for the Barbecue category honor with the top four finalists hailing from Colombia, Sweden, Switzerland and the US. BBQ Makes Everything Better joins two previous US winners as well as past winners from Belgium, South Africa, New Zealand, Finland, France, Germany, and the UK.

"We were humbled just to be recognized and absolutely honored by the win, said Chronister. "Bringing this award home to the BBQ capital is really exciting and great for Kansas City."

BBQ Makes Everything Better was first awarded "Best US Barbecue Cookbook" in a national competition which then qualified the cookbook to represent the United States in the "Best in the World" competition. More than 8,000 books were received from 154 countries and juried for 53 cookbook categories and 23 drink book categories.

The awards ceremony, founded by Edouard Cointreau, of the Cointreau, Frapin and Remy Martin liqueur families, was held on the first day of The Paris Cookbook Fair. This unique fair is a gathering place for the world's best to gain access to the global market, and "to honor those who cook and drink with words". The fair, held at Le Centquatre 104, the new Artistic Center of the city of Paris, was a four day long festival with International and French demo kitchens, a cookbook gallery, an international rights center and tasting areas for cheese, wine, candies and specialty foods from the featured countries of Malaysia and Italy.

Their award winning book features easy to make BBQ dishes, entertaining anecdotes, innovative uses for leftovers and their most notable recipe, the Bacon Explosion[TM]. A paperback edition of the book will be released by Scribner on May 3, 2011 and will be available wherever books are sold.
